It seems that csyt size doesnt always correlate with pain...maybe it depends on body size and where your ovaries sit within your pelvic region. Anyway-mine is less than 2 inches and it has seriously been messing with my life! 27yo, no pregnancies and on the pill since 16. First symptoms came in the october=I attributed it to weight gain, digestive problems, whatever. When I saw my family at thanksgiving they begged me to seek medical attention. They could tell I was in a lot of pain and not myself. An clinic, er visit, dr visit, and month later they finally diagnosed the cyst through a CT scan (looking for appendicitis) andn the ultrasound and got me sent over to a gyno. He basically laughed at me and said noway could a cyst that small be causing this much pain! (Unable to sit-only stand or lay. They slight bend would cause instant vomiting. Constant pain.) He told me he was sure I had PID, which is "always" caused by an STD. Well that started a wonderful fight with my boyfriend HAHA. Finally got a hold of the doc a few weeks later and the tests came back negative for any STD. He was still convinced it was PID, and said he'd redo the the ultrasound in 3 months. He recommended I see a gastro since he thought I might have IBS. Several gastro visits and tests later that doc says I might have IBS. Meanwhile the pain was pretty constant, yet would come in go in waves-rendering me unable to talk at times, sometimes fainting. The week before I was supposed to have the follow up ultrasound I blacked out from the pain while driving on the highway going 70 mph with cruise control on. I don't know how long i was blacked out, but I ran into the back of a semi truck and totaled my car.Ambulance to ER, thank God nothing other than concussion, whiplash, and back pain. My vitals were consistent with an internal injury so the ER whipped out the ultrasound and started looking. They found the cyst, almost the same size as 3 months ago. Followed up with my reg doc for more xrays and physical therapy plan. She recommended a new gyno. Almost a month to the date of the accident I will FINALLY get that sucker out. WHOOHOOOOO!!!! Surgery is in 4 days, I can't wait to get my life back. (Wear my normal clothes, work out, and not be consumed with pain.) So long story short-if you are in pain and your doc says don't worry about it...find a new doctor who will listen to you.

So here's my tale of woe... About 4 weeks ago, I woke up one morning in incredible pain with severe nausea and vomiting. I'd had lesser pain in the area in the past, but attributed it too gas, took it in stride and carried on. That morning though, there was no way I could ignore it. I thought something was seriously wrong, so off the ER I went. I guess my distress was pretty evident as I was admitted pretty quickly by the hospital.. and given some blessed pain relief. At that time, the doctor was certain I had a kidney stone, as the pain was radiating from my lower back.. around my side and into my lower abdomen and groin. After I had a CT scan, I dozed off (morphine... zzzzzzz). When I next opened my eyes, there was a new doctor in the room, who introduced herself as the on-call Gyneocologist, and she told me she wanted to go over the results of my CT scan. I had a second of panic.. worried she was going to tell me I had cancer or something, but she explained that my scan showed a 19cm cyst on my right ovary. 19cm! I've had bad pain off and on for the past month and am hopeful that I will be booked in to get it removed this Friday. I'm told the chances are good that at least the afflicted ovary will be removed as well, if not both.
