An Update On My Ovarian Cyst
Posted by grrrlriot on July 19, 2008
This is an update from one of my previous entries located here.
My cyst is on my left ovary. It is small and I had an ultrasound done last month and the cyst has not grown any. Since July 10th, and this week, even right now, The cyst has been bothering me. It was so bad last week, I had to stay in bed quite often for 2 days: Thursday and Friday..July 10th and July 11th. Last Saturday, July 12th, I went to the doctor. He prescribed me some Ibprofren (spelling?) 800mg to help the pain. I also found out I had a UTI again. (urinary tract infection) Last Sunday through right now, It is still bothering me, but the pain isn’t as bad as it was,. Also, I started my period 4 days ago and the cyst is still bothering me. Today-Saturday, It is still bothering me. I still feel bloated, full, heavy, have dull pains, and at times…sharp pains. It was worse than that last week. I’m hoping that it quits bothering me soon. I have to sit alot, but on something soft…any hard chair makes the pain worse. I can stand and work some, even though it still hurts when I do so.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Is there anything I can do to get rid of the pain? Please share your advice with me.

I can totally relate to what you’re going through. I only have 1 week of every month that I’m not in pain and that is the week right after my period. The best thing to take is ibuprofen because it’s an anti inflamatory. Other than that I don’t really know…I’m just trying to make it through the day. Birth control pills help but I can’t take them because I react really badly to the hormones. If you are able to take a birth control pill I recommend that you start! Sorry I can’t be of more help!

Thanks for the advice Sarah! I was taking Ibuprofen, but I quit taking it because my cyst hasn’t bothered me in August yet. If it starts to, I will take Ibuprofen again.

Hmm, the same thing happened to my mother some odd years ago. She didn’t have constant pain like you, but at 2 different times she has had cysts rupture, causing immense bleeding and internal pain. After the second time she had the problematic ones surgically removed. A surgical procedure may seem a bit extreme but if the pain gets to be unbearable you should look into it as a remote possibility.
As for the pain coinciding with your period; do you think that could be a possible link? Do you take ibuprofen when you get cramps?

This time on my period, It hasn’t bothered me at all. It could be a possible link. No, I only take Ibuprofen when the cyst is really painful. I take midol and tylenol for the cramps. (due to my period)
